📢 Communications Committee
Help us tell our story! This group will manage the newsletter and social media, create graphics and flyers, and write material that shares DSA values and issues from a leftist point of view. Writers, designers, photographers, and folks who just love a good caption: we need you.
✊ Direct Action Working Group
This group is all about getting DSA out into our community and active. One of our main goals is to give members real opportunities to practice the skills a movement runs on: talking with strangers, showing up consistently, making noise in public, and working side by side. Not every event will speak to you equally, and that’s okay. Come anyway! Every one is a chance to build skills you’ll use no matter what you end up organizing around.
🏛️ Socialists in Office (SIO)
Our electoral group is all about making sure Santa Fe’s government works for the people who actually live here. SIO engages with the City of Santa Fe, holds elected officials accountable to the people they serve, and is building a collaborative local DSA platform. That platform is being written right now, so this is the perfect time to get involved! Come share your ideas and help shape what we fight for.
SIO is also digging into how our city government actually works: who makes which decisions, how the budget comes together, and where the public can make its voice heard. The more we understand the system, the better we can engage with it and push our vision forward. If you’re a researcher, a policy nerd, or just curious about how City Hall ticks, we’d love your help!
🏡 Housing Working Group
Focused on advocating for services for unhoused neighbors and affordable housing in Santa Fe. We’re working to learn more about the current housing situation here, collaborating with other local groups doing this work, and pushing for better policies that take care of our whole community. We’re also gearing up for a door-to-door canvassing campaign to listen to community members and promote solutions like safe parking spaces and pallet shelters.
🌲 Public Lands/Public Power Working Group
New Mexico’s land, water, and energy belong to all of us, and this group works to keep it that way! Public Lands/Public Power organizes around environmental issues across the state, from protecting the places we love to fighting for an energy system that serves people over profit. Our recent focus has been opposing the buyout of PNM, because the power that runs our homes should be accountable to the communities that depend on it, not to distant investors. If you care about climate, conservation, or energy justice, come find your people here!
🌱 Membership Team
The folks who help our chapter grow! Membership handles outreach to recruit new members, orients new folks, and checks in with longtime or lapsing members. We also have new positions opening that will be working with the OC, so if you’re interested, please reach out!
📖 Education
Not an official group yet, but we’re hoping to build education programming over the next couple of months. If you’re passionate about building curriculum, workshops, or educational materials, let us know!
